"Head to Head"
This
was done in Sand, built up to shape the heads and watercolor painted in to
accent the built up and subject. Truly one of a kind.

. . . A Warrior is stately
and an Maiden regal, on the back of a beautiful Appaloosa. They were
bred by Nez Perce, a hardy horse, compact, but with style. Sturdy in
footing and long on stamina. In "Head to Head," these parade ponies
show their beauty in the spots. And oh what spots!
Dressed in beadwork and
fringe they are a show
in the viewing, a feast for the eyes. Years ago before the Nez Perce
were sent to the reservations, after a determined effort with many souls
passing o in a process. Due to weakness, lack of food and the
weather, in trying to get to Canada, the Cavalry took the Nez Perce
breeding stock and slaughtered them. But like the great people who
loved them, and bred them they are her today, they survived.
They
come as a Leopard ( White or Rust background, with spots, ) a Few Spot
Leopard ( has spots but not seen very well, ) or the common - the Blanket
marking ( Black or Brown with Black or Brown
or White rump spots. ) This exquisite Rust and Leopard Appaloosa,
are only a part of what they carry through the Westward Ho Parade, in
Pendleton, Oregon at Round-up time. For on their backs are beautiful
Indian Maidens in buckskin, beads and Eagle Feathers. I thin they
are better than any fancy car you could ever ride in a parade.
