Calico Louie

... Below Black Butte with Mt. Shasta in the background the Gilliam Brothers enjoy their reunion at this rendezvous. Louie is to be the woman, being he's a good dancer. Bob is his partner and Roger plays the fiddle.  Their dance floor is the smooth side of a Buffalo robe.  A pot of stew is on the fire and a basket of berries are a donation to the meal from Roger and his wife.  The three brothers are Cherokee, and left their home for some adventure.  Two of them ending up to find happiness with their wives and their people.

Looking on are the wives of Louie and Roger.  Louie's wife, has a look on her face as to say "look at these crazy men we have." Louie's wife is Peigan and Roger's wife is Nez Perce, with their new born in a cradleboard near her.  Louie traded for the gingham apron to go with his wife' fine red wool dress, but as you can see he's using it at the moment.

Bob has come up from Southern California area, with a friend.  His friend is talking to an Indian maiden in the background wrapped in a beautiful Hudson Bay Blanket.  A warrior is in the background coming back from digging up his bundle of firs from a hiding place.  And a group of men gather under a lean to and tell yarns by the light of the fire, while another goes over the trade goods in the wagon.  Jugs of whiskey are place on a table, ready for trade so that a man can quench his thrust and it helps a little in the story telling department.  As you can see, the Gilliam brothers are well on their way of celebration.

More will come, and this meadow will be full of celebrating souls that is a rendezvous.  The sky is fading from day to night as the sun does down and the stars come out.
